More about us
The St. Johns Leadership Academy is a learning and formation community, forming pioneering mission-shaped Church and community leaders for our context. A beloved community of both learners and leaders who are working out how to lead faithfully in the ways of Jesus.
What is it that we do?
We offer a formation process designed around practical ministry experience, academic training, and personal and communal formation. Through the support of mentors, placement leaders, and group facilitators we aim to foster a relationship of learning between each student's practical placement; academic studies, and formational journey.
We gather on Monday evenings for formation and each week we start with worship and prayer, using the office of evening prayer and other liturgies developed by our students for our time together. This practice undergirds our process in the hope that students develop rhythms of worship and prayer that will empower and sustain them in ministry, life, and leadership.
Our input is shaped around theological reflection, the richness of the learning community, and an emphasis on contextual discovery. Part of the contextual discovery is mobile classrooms, where we physically visit places in our city with rich heritage and history and see how they relate to our current reality.
Our Approach
We use the praxis cycle as a framework for our process; inviting leaders into authentic and meaningful immersion, critical analysis, and theological reflection so that we can organise faithful actions in the places and spaces where we are.
